Perhaps you’re wondering: “what is an instant payment?”

Let me explain. Open banking lets you pay directly from your bank account, removing the need to share debit or credit card details. It’s simple, fast. And of course, it’s secure. And, Wonderful is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority for your protection.

Instant payments are secure. Processed by Wonderful, an FCA-authorised Payment Institution, we ensure the highest standards of compliance.

They’re also fast. Transactions are completed and settle instantly.

And instant payments are convenient. There’s no data to enter. Simply approve the payment in a couple of taps directly via your online or mobile bank app.

Tap the link or scan the QR code to choose your bank. Log in using your mobile banking app or online banking. Review the payment details and authorise with a single tap.

That’s it. Your transaction is complete.

Is open banking safe? Absolutely. As an FCA-authorised Payment Institution, Wonderful meets strict regulatory standards. No sensitive data is shared, and you stay in control of your account at all times.

For your security, double-check that the name of the business or charity shown on our screen matches the name of the business or charity shown in your online bank or mobile banking app. They should always be an exact match.

Batch payouts allow you to make payments from a single account that you control to multiple payees without having to authorise each individual payment. These bulk payment runs are suitable for tasks such as paying supplier invoices, or running staff payroll. Batch payouts are exclusively available to enterprise customers on our Asima Open Banking PIS plans.

Bank restrictions

We support the Open Banking specification for processing file payments. Your bank may place additional requirements on initiating file payments. These may include limits on the number of payments in each batch, the total combined value of the payments, or restrictions on recipients being existing named beneficiaries.

We have compiled a list of banks that we are aware of that may place restrictions on file payments. Not all banks support file payments, so if you bank is not listed you should first check with your account manager that Open Banking file payments are supported. If you need any additional help please raise a support ticket.

Barclays

• Batches must have a minimum of 5 payees, and a maximum of 50.
• The minimum value of each payment is £0.05.
• The maximum total value of the batch must not exceed £50,000.

HSBC

• Each batch is limited to a maximum of 25 payees.

Lloyds

• Each batch is limited to a maximum of 25 payees.
• The maximum total value of the batch must not exceed £100,000.
• The daily limit for bulk payments is £250,000.

NatWest / RBS / Ulster Bank

• Each batch is limited to a maximum of 50 payments (Business accounts).
• Bankline customers are limited to a maximum of 3,000 payments per batch.

Santander

• Each batch is limited to a maximum of 3,500 payments.
• The maximum total value of the batch must not exceed £100,000 (Business accounts).
• The maximum total value of the batch must not exceed £250,000 (Corporate accounts).
• All creditors must be trusted beneficiaries on the account.

Revolut

• Each batch is limited to a maximum of 1,000 payments.
• The maximum total value of the batch must not exceed £1,000,000.
• All creditors must be trusted beneficiaries on the account.

Virgin Money

• Each batch is limited to a maximum of 750 payments
• The maximum total value of the batch must not exceed the account limit.

Before we dive in, here’s something important to note: Quick Payments are single-use. That means they’re perfect for sending a specific payment request to a specific customer for a specific amount. If you need something more flexible – say, a link that multiple customers can use – just head over to the My Library section in Get Paid and generate your payment link or QR code from there.

Alright, let’s get started!

First, from the main menu, click or tap Get Paid and then choose Quick Payment.

Now, enter the amount you’d like to be paid. And if you want, you can add a reference or description in the Label field – something like “Red T-Shirt” or “Legal Services”.

Once you’re ready, hit Create Payment. You’ll be taken to a new screen where you can see your payment link.

TIP: resist the urge to scan the QR code or visit the link yourself! Remember, this is for your customer to use, not you. Instead, tap or click one of the green buttons to either copy the QR code image or the payment link.

Unless you KNOW that your customer will be scanning the code with their camera, like from a product or poster, we recommend copying the link. The payment link is smart – it’ll automatically show the QR code or the link based on the customer’s device. Pretty cool, right? We handle that for you!

And that’s it! Now you can paste the image or link wherever you need – into an email, a text message, WhatsApp – and send it to your customer.

Oh, and don’t forget: you can track every payment you send in the Reporting section of your dashboard, so you’ll always know when you’ve been paid.

So, what’s a typical use for multiple-use payment links? Here are a few examples:

• A link to share with students to pay a fixed amount course fee.
• A payment QR code to display alongside the picture of a burger at a food truck.
• A link to share with supporters to donate £10 to a charity fundraiser.

But of course, there are many, many uses!

First, from the main menu, click or tap Get paid and then choose My library. If this is your first time here, you’ll see just one QR code. This QR code can’t be edited, and it allows the person who's paying to choose how much they pay. You might use this if you’re a charity and want to give your supporters the option to choose their donation amount, or if you’re requesting a tip.

To create your own reusable payment links with amounts and descriptions that you set, click or tap the green button that says Create new reusable link. You’ll be taken to a new screen where you can enter the amount and a label.

The Label field is optional, but we recommend giving it a name you’ll remember – especially if you plan on creating lots of these links. Plus, it helps your customers know exactly what they’re paying for!

Once that’s done, tap or click one of the green buttons to either copy the QR code image or the payment link.

Now you can share your reusable payment wherever you like! Print the QR code on a poster or send the link to your customers, fans or charity supporters by email, text message; add it to your email signature, share it to a WhatsApp group or post it on Facebook, TikTok or X.

But before we do, just a quick reminder: you can do all of this through our free mobile app too. Download it from the Apple App Store or from the Google Play Store..

Building an Order is ideal when you want to create an itemised breakdown of products or services that your payment link relates to. Here are a couple of examples:

The build an order section might be used by a plumber who wants to show costs for "parts and labour" separately in her payment description.

A waiter could use it to add food and drink items ordered at a cafe.

Or perhaps, providing a breakdown of treatments enjoyed during a spa retreat. There are many practical examples of how this simple order creation tool might be used by small businesses. And endpoints are also available for those wishing to use this functionality with our API.

OK, let's take a look at how it works.

From the main navigation, click “Get Paid”, and “Build an Order”. Each order needs a customer. If you don’t have any customers, click the “New” button.

Select your customer and add an “Order description”. The order description is helpful for your customer and for searching reports in the dashboard.

Let’s continue using our yoga teacher as an example. He adds “Iyengar Summer block” as his first line item.

He then adds a quantity. He’s sending a link to pay for 12 classes – and the cost of each class is £18.

Next, he needs to charge for the mat and t-shirt that his student ordered. He taps “Add line” and adds a description of “BFY yoga mat.” In the quantity field, he enters “one”, and in the price field, he adds “forty five”.

He then adds a line for the t-shirt.

Since he doesn’t charge VAT, his simple order is complete. If the business was VAT-registered, he could add an additional line for the VAT amount.

And that’s it. Now he simply clicks or taps the green button that says “Create order”. His QR code and payment link are ready to share.

Finally, he just copies the link or QR code, and shares it with his customer via email, text message, or WhatsApp.

This, and other e-commerce and accountancy software integrations, are available for subscribers to our Plus and Pro plans.

To use our Public API for quick payments, all you need to provide is a payment reference, amount, and return URL to get started – it’s that simple. But our API offers a whole lot more.

Use it to sync customer records effortlessly.

Create, update, and delete customer profiles to keep everything in sync with your existing CRM.

Manage orders with ease. Link them to customers, add order lines with descriptions, quantities, and unit prices – all through the API.

If you need to issue a refund, you can initiate full or partial refund requests for existing orders programmatically. They will be waiting for you in your merchant dashboard to approve.

Generate, update, and delete QR codes that will show within the My Library section.

If you want to check if your customer’s bank is supported before they check out, use our Supported Banks endpoint to verify. You can also speed up the customer checkout process if you pre-select a bank when creating the payment request.

Our Public API is built to be developer-friendly, and support is available if you need it. You can view the developer documentation at api.wonderful.one.

The Woo integration is available for subscribers to our Plus and Pro plans.

From the main navigation, tap or click “Integrations” and then choose “WooCommerce”. You’ll see a couple of links—one to our installation guide and another to download the installation zip file locally. You’ll also see a form field to enter the website for your WooCommerce store, but the easiest way to activate and receive automatic updates is by installing directly from WordPress, so let’s come back to this page later.

Log in to your WordPress website, choose “Plugins”, then click “Add new plugin” at the top of the screen. Next, use the search bar to enter “Wonderful”.

You’ll see the “Wonderful Payments for WooCommerce” plugin in the search results. Click “install now”. Once installed, click “activate” to activate the plugin.

Now, return to the Wonderful merchant dashboard to generate your merchant token. As you’ll see, we need a URL to associate with your merchant token. Enter your WooCommerce website here, including https:// at the start of the address.

Click “generate token” and then click “connect”. Once our team has reviewed your application, we’ll send an email confirming that your key has been created. Click the link in this email and navigate back to “Integrations” and “WooCommerce”. You’ll see your new key on the right-hand side. Click the copy-to-clipboard button and head back to your WordPress control panel.

Next, click “WooCommerce” and select “Settings”. In the internal navigation on that page, select “Payments” and choose “Wonderful Payments”. Scroll to the bottom and paste your merchant key into the empty field. Then click “Save changes”.

Congratulations! That’s it. You’re ready to accept instant payments from your customers.

Now, when your customers visit your WooCommerce store, they will see Wonderful as one of the payment options. They can choose the bank they’d like to pay you from directly from the integrated bank selector in your store and proceed to confirm the payment in their mobile banking app or online bank. Even better, the payment will reach your bank account seconds later, allowing you to ship their order without delay.

The Xero integration is available for subscribers to our Plus and Pro plans and only takes a couple of minutes to integrate and connect.

From the main navigation, click “Integrations” and then choose “Xero”. You’ll see a link to the integration guidance notes. Once you’ve read these, click “Connect Xero”.

Once logged in, check the organisation and user details and then click “Allow access”.

If you haven’t already added a bank to your Xero account, you’ll see a reminder to do so here too. It’s important that you connect the same bank account that you use with Wonderful.

Choose how you’d like invoices to be created, synchronisation options for customers on both platforms, your VAT rate, and invoice timings.

But it’s really that simple to integrate Wonderful with Xero. You’re all done.

Select “Customisation” and “Branding” from the main navigation on the left.

You can brand the payment flow, email receipt, and payment link preview.

Let’s start by updating the colour. You can select RGB, HSL values, or enter the hex code for your colour. Or, you can simply use the colour picker to select a colour from your logo or anywhere else on your screen.

Once you’re happy with the colour, use the “Choose file” button to add your logo. Select a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image of your logo and upload it. You’ll now see a preview of your branded customer payment journey in the mobile screen on the right.

Check that the text in your footer contrasts well with your chosen colour and switch from black to white, or vice versa.

The last thing to add in this section is a URL to send your customers after they pay. If you have an email newsletter or promotional offer to share, enter the URL here, or simply return customers to your help-desk or home page.

Finally, click the “Save” button to save your changes.

Next, let’s take a look at the email receipt.

By default – and if we captured an email address during the transaction – we’ll send your customers an email receipt. You can disable this by unchecking the box.

Optionally, add a few words to the receipt – for example, a promotion description or shipping information. You’ll see a preview on the right. Once you’re happy with your receipt options, click save.

The last of our custom branding options is the link preview. This is the image displayed with your link in SMS, WhatsApp, emails, and social media. Upload an image, making sure the file dimensions are optimised for compatibility across as many platforms as possible.

That’s it! Click “Save”, and you’re done.

Now, let’s take a look at how that link is displayed when shared in an email.

We’ll select “Get paid” and create a new “Quick payment”.

Enter the amount and a description.

Click “Create payment”.

Finally, copy and paste the link into an email message.

Note that the link preview image has been updated, and the link description now includes the amount to be paid and the recipient’s name – your business or charity.

This feature is available to our Pro plan customers. If you need to learn more about how reusable payment requests work and when to use them, first watch the video guide in the “Get Paid” → “My Library” section of the dashboard.

Select “Customisation” and “Data fields” from the main navigation on the left.

You can now add and store data fields and specify the type of data you’re collecting; for example, text, integers, or email addresses. You can also specify whether fields are required or optional.

Add your fields and label them. If you need customers to select a single option from a list, use the “Dropdown” option. You can then add as many choices as you like, with the label displayed to your customer and the selected value reported back to you.

In this example, Alex is creating a reusable link for some branded t-shirts. He adds Small, Medium, and Large using the “Dropdown” option. He’ll now be able to see which size each customer ordered before shipping.

Alex also wants to encourage customers to register for his newsletter, so he creates this as a checkbox field but makes it optional, allowing customers to decide whether they want to subscribe.

Now let’s see what happens when he creates and shares a new reusable payment link with these data fields.

He adds a price and description and selects the fields he’d like to display from those he just created.

Since this is a reusable link, it’s fine to preview, so let’s take a look at how that payment request appears to Alex’s customers.

As we can see, the new fields are displayed, and customers are prompted if required fields aren’t completed.

Once all the information has been gathered, the QR code or payment link will be displayed—depending on whether the customer is using a computer or smartphone.

However, one of the restrictions of Open Banking, means that you will need to cancel your standing order directly with your bank. Please complete ALL the steps below to cancel your service.

Here are the steps required to cancel.

1. Log in to the merchant dashboard and tap the down arrow to the right of your name in the top right hand corner.
2. Select "My account."
3. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen, you'll see a button which says "Cancel subscription." Click this and then click "OK" to confirm.

Now, cancel your standing order with your bank.

This is something we are unable to do on your behalf, though we continue to lobby to be able to handle this part of the process for our customers too. Until that happens, you'll need to cancel your standing order directly with each bank, but to help with this, here are the links to support articles from the banks:

Integrating your Wonderful One app with Xero takes a couple of minutes and it will allow you to automatically generate and send invoices from Xero to your clients when you generate an order in your One app. It will even mark the invoice as ‘Paid’ when  your client completes the payment via the QR code or payment link you generate for them.

Integration is a two-step process, first you must give your One app permission to create invoices and payments within your Xero installation. Secondly you must tell the One app how you would like the invoices created.

Integration management

Login to your One app and select ‘Integrations’ from the menu. You will be presented with a page (shown below)  all the integrations you have available, and which ones have been used. You can see in the screenshot below, the wooCommerce token has not been generated and the Xero integration is connected. The right-hand button has a green background for generated/connected integrations, and a white background for unused ones.

When you click on an integration button it will display the settings for that integration. For example, in the next screenshot we can see the WooCommerce settings. A read-only field where the token will be displayed, the ‘copy to clipboard’ icon, the ‘generate’ icon, and the ‘delete’ icon.

Whenever an integration is to be activated by generating a token or establishing a connection with software like Xero, you will be presented with a confirmation message which warns you, you will be charged when you proceed.

Pre-requisites:

1. You will need to have the login details for your Xero account.
2. If you have not already set it up, you will need to add the bank account to your Xero. This must be the same account as the one you used to connect your One app to.  Go to Accounting > Bank Accounts and click the ‘Add Bank Account’ button.

Connect to Xero

When you want to connect Xero for the first time you must login to the integrations page and click ‘Connect’

You will then be redirected to Xero’s website to login and authorise the connection between One & your copy of Xero. When complete, you will be redirected back to the integrations page, this time with a ‘Connected’ green button against Xero.

There are a number of settings now available, which must be completed before the Xero integration will work.

The Xero settings will display your company name and your username that you logged into Xero with. In example above the company is ‘Moustachioed Flea’ via Jason Rudland’s login. Also displayed is the Xero username (email address).

Note: Xero allows for multiple companies to be contained within one login. However, for this release of the Xero Integration we are limited to the first company on the Xero account.

Reconnect Button

A Xero connection can be disabled or deleted by actions outside of One. For example you can delete the connection from within Xero. In this case you can click the reconnect button and re-establish the authorisation.

Disconnect Button

This will disconnect One form Xero. Essentially we delete all our authorisations and settings. The connection inside Xero is still active, and you can delete it from Xero, but once you click the delete button in the One app, there is no way for the app to access Xero until you re-authorise it.

Create a Xero Invoice From Orders

When checked, this setting will trigger the Xero invoice to be created when a payment with an associated order is made from the One app. It will also cause other detailed settings to appear. The invoice will not be created if these settings are not in place.

If one of the bank accounts in Xero has the same account number and sort code as the account you used to connect to your One app, it will be displayed here. In the above example, you can see ‘Connected to: Wise Current Account’. If we have not been able to match the bank account you will see an error message in red saying you need to enter the correct bank account in Xero.

Select a Revenue Account

This drop down list will display all the revenue accounts in your Xero. Usually you will simply select ‘Sales’

Select Tax Rate

This drop down will display all the tax rates in Xero. Typically you will select either ‘20%‘ if you are VAT registered, and ‘No Vat’ if you are not. By selecting a non-zero tax rate the invoices will be calculated to assume the line amount on the order is inclusive of VAT, and it will work out the net amounts.

When these settings are complete, whenever you create a payment from an order in the One app a Xero Invoice will be generated. As a different process when your client completes a payment, this will be added to Xero and allocated to the invoice in Xero, marking it as paid.

Sync With Xero Clients

This will run a job overnight to download all your Xero contacts and add them to the app customer list. If you create a new contact in Xero, the next day it should appear in the app.

Included in our Pro plan, access to our Payments API allows you to accept instant bank payments from your online checkout. Wonderful can sit alongside other payment methods (such as debit and credit cards, BNPL services or Paypal), but you'll need experience of working with APIs to complete the installation. Documentation is provided.

1. The first step is to check your business bank is supported  This is required to receive payments. Customer transactions are settled in real time, so the money is in your business account the moment your customer approves the payment.
2. Once you've confirmed we have integrated your bank, it's time to get you on board. To do this, sign up with Wonderful and set up your account.
3. From your One dashboard, select "Integrations" then "API" from the navigation menu on the left.

Installation of the API and a current subscription to our Pro plan is all that is required, which includes 5,000 monthly transactions for just £49.99 (plus VAT). There are no percentage charges and any transactions outside the inclusive bundle are charged at just 1p / transaction.

The API will allow you to do all the things you can do from the dashboard or the mobile app, including creating QR codes, quick payment links, and invoices.

To generate an instant bank payment QR code in the One by Wonderful app: first unlock the app using your secure link or biometric login and then choose one of the following three options:

1. Quick payment - to generate a code for a single, one-off payment;
2. My library - to use a previously generated QR code (or create a QR code that can be used more than once);
3. Build an order - to add other details for a specific order, such as product descriptions, line items and quantities.

Complete the required details (e.g. for a Quick payment, simply add the amount) and tap "QR code". Your customer then simply scans the QR code, selects their bank and authorises a pre-populated payment to your business.

If your customer isn't present, or you'd like to send a payment link to a customer to pay later, tap "Share".

If you tap, QR code, you'll see the QR code displayed on the next screen ready for your customer to scan. (Of course, "Your Business Name" will display, well, your business name!)

If you tap share, you'll see standard sharing options (email, SMS, WhatsApp, etc.). Select the method you wish to use to share and continue...

Sharing will create a payment link for your customer to tap and pay at their convenience. (Again, "Your business name" in the image below will display your business name.)
